FAQs for US Hotels
Hotel FAQ for J-1 Trainees
Q. What recruitment fees will I pay?
A. None. USA Placement is an international exchange organization. Services to the host hotel are free of charge.

Q. What types of positions are required from us?
A.When we give our presentations and we speak to the candidates individually, we tell them they could be hired under three scenarios.
  • The first and most ideal for the graduate, hotel, and USA Placement would be that a graduate has impressed the hotel so much that they are offered a supervisory or management position right away. However, this is not mandatory. Even in this position they would still be required to be constantly learning for their future careers.
  • The second is that the hotel may not have a management position open and/or the trainee may not be ready for this role right away. However, when or if the position becomes available and the trainee proves capable, they will have the chance to be promoted.
  • The third and final but no less than the others is that the hotel will not have a management position throughout the whole 12-18 months, but you will give them the training to be able to become managers in the future.

Because of this, all our trainees are very clear about the program and they do not come over thinking management is guaranteed. We have noticed that many hotels have shied away from the program because they think they must make them management or supervisors but that is not the case at all.

Q. What stipend Do I pay the trainee?
A. The minimum stipend for an international trainee is $1750 monthly, depending on geographical location. However, we encourage you to pay more based on the value you feel the trainee is offering your hotel. (Short-term interns are available for 1-6 month periods with no stipend required.)

Q. How long can the trainee stay?
A. The J-1 Training Visa allows the trainee to stay for up to 18 months. The average trainee stays 12-18 months.

Q. Am I bound To the training for 18 Months?
A. No. If you feel the trainee isn't working out, you are under no obligation to continue training.

Q. What if the trainee finds a position elsewhere?
A. As long as the trainee is treated appropriately and receiving the suggested training, the J-1 Visa requires them to train exclusively for your hotel.

Q. Does my hotel have to sponsor the trainee?
A. No. An organization designated by the Department of State sponsors the individual. USA Placement handles most legal issues for your hotel and assists the trainee in filing for the visa application.

Q. Who does the J-1 Visa paperwork?
A. USA Placement handles the majority of paperwork. All you need to do is provide us with a description of position requirements and hotel bio's.

Q. How well do the trainees read, write, and speak English?
A. All of our trainees are more than proficient in English. USA Placement requires a TOEFL or TOIEC score of 213 or more - equal to the score most American graduate schools require for international students.
